Lee Schmerling
Consulting Engineer

Ms. Schmerling has thirteen years experience performing materials analyses using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) for fracture surface examinations, semi-quantitative elemental analysis, corrosion product, and chemical deposit examination. She specializes in failure analysis, fractography, elemental identification, and particle size analysis. She has performed metallurgical examinations and/or failure analyses on components from utilities, industrial boilers, orthopedics implants, and electronic components. Her responsibilities during an analysis include defining a scope of work and budget, overseeing technical support, determining the root cause of the failure, and contacting the client.

Ms. Schmerling is responsible for developing laboratory testing programs for parts received, supervision of laboratory work, interpretation of laboratory results, and issuance of written and/or oral reports.

Ms. Schmerling conducts the on-site analysis of in-service failures.
